Dozens killed as heavy rains batter PakistanComment on this story
Pakistani officials say heavy monsoon rains have killed 40 people across the country as the government warned of more flash flooding at the weekend.
Ahmad Kamal, a spokesman for the National Disaster Management Authority, said on Friday that 13 people died when roofs collapsed in the eastern city of Lahore the previous day.
The rains triggered landslides that killed six civilians and three soldiers in the Pakistani-administered Kashmir on Thursday.
Heavy rains also lashed the capital, Islamabad, where thousands of opposition supporters have camped outside the parliament for weeks, demanding Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif resign over alleged voting fraud. The protesters used makeshift tents made from plastic sheets to shelter from the rains.
Pakistan regularly suffers from flooding during the monsoon season.
