Stuart - A 19-year-old man is accused of smashing through the front window of a Florida home and attacking a woman and her son.

Martin County Sheriff William Snyder told media outlets that the man was using a designer drug that didn't appear in a database of the narcotics analyser used by investigators. The attack happened early Sunday.

Snyder says the man jumped through the plate-glass window and grabbed the woman. She broke away and screamed for her adult son.

The sheriff says the son fought the man while his mother hit the assailant on the head with a baseball bat.

Deputies handcuffed the man and bound his feet because he was kicking them.

The attack happened in the same county where authorities say 19-year-old Austin Harrouff attacked a couple Aug. 15, killing them and biting the man's face.
