Mexico City - Police in northern Mexico discovered $1-million worth of heroin stashed in the toilet of a bus heading toward the US border, authorities said on Saturday.
Two people were arrested after anti-drug police pulled over the bus bound for the border city of Tijuana during a routine highway search and found more than 68 pounds (31 kg) of heroin in a secret compartment in the vehicle's bathroom, police said.
Mexican President Felipe Calderon has declared war on drug violence that killed 2 000 people last year, sending thousands of troops and police to hunt down traffickers shipping cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana to the United States.
