Millions of children in North Korea have stunted growth because they are not getting enough food, a report warns.

Nearly a third of under-fives are showing signs of dwarfism caused by severe malnutrition.

Officials from the United Nations also said that some babies were so malnourished they were unable to sit up or hold a bottle.

Jerome Sauvage, the UN’s resident co-ordinator for North Korea, claimed government officials lied about children’s ages, saying they were three or four years younger than they actually were to try to cover up the problem.

There are concerns North Korea cannot afford to feed its residents properly as it is spending all its money building up its military power.

Sauvage also warned that most hospitals have no equipment, running water or electricity. - Daily Mail
