Belgrade - Former Serbian president Boris Tadic ended years of boycotting the Kosovan government on Saturday by participating in a conference also attended by Kosovo's Prime Minister Hashim Thaci.

Tadic had not been expected to take part in the regional meeting of south-eastern European leaders in Dubrovnik. He had previously avoided all contact with senior Kosovan politicians to avoid implicitly recognizing the former Serbian province as an independent state.

Meanwhile, police said that unknown gunmen had shot a Serbian couple in Kosovo late Friday. The Serbian government condemned the attack, which took place south of Pristina, calling it an attempt to compel the few remaining Serbs to leave Kosovo. - Sapa-dpa
