Beijing -

Six people failed in an attempt to hijack a plane in China Friday after passengers and crew members overpowered them, a media report said.

Two flight security officers on board were seriously injured. The head flight attendant and seven passengers also received minor injuries while struggling with the hijackers, police said.

Police have not said whether the hijackers took firearms or other weapons on the plane.

The attempted hijack of the Tianjin Airlines flight from Hotan Airport in western China's Xinjiang province took place about 10 minutes after the plane took off for Urumqi, the Xinhua news agency reported, citing the Public Security Bureau.

The plane, which was carrying 100 passengers, then returned to Hotan and the six suspects were arrested. - Sapa-dpa
