Paris - Firefighters rescued a daredevil climber on Wednesday after he was overcome by heat while scaling a cube-shaped arch at a corporate complex outside Paris.

Alain Robert, a French building climber known as "Spiderman," had made it about halfway up the Grande Arche de la Defense, just west of Paris, before signaling to firefighters that he was feeling unwell.

Rescuers rappelled from the roof of the 110-metre arch on long cables and hauled him to safety from the slippery marble walls.

Firefighters said that Robert, who climbs using only his bare hands, had been overcome by the unusually warm September temperature of 26 degrees Celsius.

Robert has scaled more than 30 skyscrapers, including the Sears Tower in Chicago and the Empire State Building in New York. - Sapa-AP
