Los Angeles - Four homeless people were found dead on Tuesday inside a burned-out office building near downtown Los Angeles, a day after another body was found by firefighters who extinguished the blaze, officials said.
It appears the Monday fire at the two-story office building was intentionally set, the Los Angeles Fire Department said in a statement.
It took more than two hours for firefighters to put out the massive blaze after it broke out on Monday night, fire officials said in the statement.
As they were extinguishing it, firefighters found the body of one person, who also appears to have been homeless, and they discovered another injured victim who was rushed to a hospital, the statement said.
On Tuesday, a team using body-sniffing dogs combed through the charred remains of the structure and discovered the bodies of four other people who were believed to be homeless, bringing the death toll to five, the statement said.
Firefighters have not released the names of the victims.
