Stockholm - Germany’s decision to introduce temporary border controls with Austria, shows that “even the strongest economy within the European Union is in a certain way reaching some limits,” European Parliament President Martin Schulz says.

“We are in an exceptional difficult situation that justifies an exceptional measure,” Schulz says after talks in Stockholm with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven.

Schulz - a German national - says he hopes the home affairs ministers of the 28-nation bloc will later on Monday agree on redistribution system for refugees at a meeting in Brussels.

Both he and Lofven expressed the need for a joint EU-wide approach to cope with the recent influx of refugees to Europe.
