Miami -

Gordon has weakened to a tropical storm near the Azores archipelago in the mid-Atlantic, with coastal warnings and watches lifted, the US-based National Hurricane Center said Monday.

The storm, which had strengthened to the third Atlantic hurricane of the season over the weekend before slowing, was some 115 miles (180 kilometers) east of the Azores as of 1200 GMT, the forecasters said.
