Baghdad -
Gunmen killed seven pro-government militiamen and injured one in northern Iraq on Friday, police said.
The attackers overpowered the eight Sahwa members at a checkpoint in the village of Halaywat, in the Salah al-Din province, some 170 kilometres north of Baghdad.
The men were taken to another location and shot. Only one survived.
The Sahwa is made up of former Sunni insurgents now helping the government restore order and fight al-Qaeda.
