Nablus, West Bank - A Palestinian militant of the radical Hamas movement was killed in the West Bank town of Tulkarem on Friday by a remote-controlled car bomb, Palestinian security sources said.
They said 27-year-old Fawaz Badran was killed when a car he was walking by exploded.
Hamas blamed Israel and said his death was another targetted killing by Israeli forces, who the Palestinians say have killed around 30 people in pinpoint raids since the Palestinian uprising against Israel began in late September.
His death brings to 34 the number of people killed since a would-be Israeli-Palestinian ceasefire was declared on June 13.
Earlier on Friday a Palestinian who was preparing to throw a grenade at an Israeli patrol was shot dead by Israeli troops in the north of the Gaza Strip, an Israeli army official said.
Public radio said a young Palestinian woman who was on the scene with the man, close to the Alai Sinai settlement, managed to escape.
The official said army experts defused an explosive device which was also found at the site.
Palestinian sources said the man, Atef Tafesh, had been a member of the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
Since the beginning of the Palestinian uprising in late September 648 people have been killed: 506 Palestinians, 123 Israelis, 13 Arab Israelis and six Europeans. - Sapa-AFP
