Wellington -

A New Zealand makeup artist made a formal complaint to police, saying she was sexually assaulted by entertainer Rolf Harris in the 1980s, radio reports said on Friday.

Harris was found guilty last week in London on 12 charges of indecent assault on four women, and sentenced to five years and nine months in jail.

New Zealand woman Lee Howden told police about an alleged assault by Harris when she was in her late 20s and doing his makeup ahead of a television appearance in Christchurch.

She told Radio New Zealand that she had made the complaint because of Harris's lack of remorse in court and to support the young girls he had assaulted.

“I feel tremendously for the young girls. He may have only got a couple of years, but he has given them a life sentence,” she said.

The length of Harris's sentence has been referred to the British attorney general as possibly being unduly lenient, the Guardian newspaper reported.

“What has made me really cross is his inability to front up, to apologise to those young women. I suspect he is just a total narcissist - in denial,” the woman said.

Member of parliament and former broadcaster Maggie Barry said last week that Rolf Harris had groped her in a radio studio in the 1980s.
