The US state of Ohio on Tuesday put to death a man who brutally stabbed a woman to death, prison officials said - the third execution in the state this year and the 38th nationwide.

“I'm good. Let's roll,” Brett Hartman, 38, said before he was executed by lethal injection at 14.34 GMT, according to a spokesman for the Ohio department of corrections, Mike Davis.

Hartman's sister, friend and lawyer, along with a friend of the victim, were present for the execution, Davis said.

Hartman, who spent 15 years on death row, was convicted for the 1997 murder of a 46-year-old woman with whom he had had sex several times. Prosecutors said he tied the victim down by her ankles and stabbed her more than 100 times.

All of his appeals, which centred around DNA evidence, were rejected, including one that went to the Supreme Court. - Sapa-AFP
