The son of an Indian minister was accused of rape by a woman claiming to be his wife, media reports said on Thursday.
The woman filed a criminal complaint against Karthik Gowda, the son of Railway Minister Sadananda Gowda, with police in India's southern city of Bangalore on Wednesday, the broadcaster NDTV reported, quoting police.
The complaint was filed just hours after Karthik became engaged to another woman in Bangalore.
Both the accused and his father denied the allegations.
“Her charges are very serious... I am not aware of what happened. But suddenly after the engagement if one girl claims such things, it leads to suspicion,” Sadananda Gowda was quoted as saying.
Sexual violence in India has been in the spotlight of Indian and international media since the fatal gang-rape of a 23-year-old student in a bus in New Delhi in December 2012. - Sapa-dpa
