Iraqi security personnel inspect the site of a car bomb attack in central Baghdad.

Kut, Iraq -

A car bomb ripped through a Shiite Muslim commemoration ceremony southeast of Baghdad on Wednesday, killing 11 people and wounding 20 others, security and medical officials said.

The 6:45 pm (1545 GMT) attack in the village of Al-Tanmiyah targeted a gathering of worshippers who were marking the day a central figure in Shiite Islam was wounded, days before his eventual death. - Sapa-AFP
