Baghdad - At least 18 worshippers were killed Friday in a bomb blast targeting a Sunni mosque in Iraq, said police.
Several bombs exploded inside the mosque in the city of Samarra, 125 kilometres north of the capital Baghdad. At least 30 people were injured in the attack.
There has been a sharp rise in violence in Iraq in recent months. The United Nations said that 1 057 people were killed in July, the deadliest month in more than five years, while at least 916 civilians were killed in August.
