Japan has announced plans to build the fastest train in the world with a top speed of 310 miles per hour.

The £40-billion rail link between Tokyo and Nagoya will leave the current 220mph fastest train in China in the dust.

Japan’s latest bullet train will use magnetic levitation, where powerful magnets float the train just above the track to reduce friction and increase speed.

The Japanese hope the rail link will persuade more people to use the train rather than plane.

China currently has the world’s longest and fastest high-speed rail network with about 4 618 miles of track. The speediest section has trains travelling 601 miles in three hours. - Daily Mail
