Feminist punk group Pussy Riot members, from left, Maria Alekhina, Yekaterina Samutsevich, and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova show the court's verdict as they sit in a glass cage at a court room in Moscow, Russia.

Moscow -

Russia's top investigative body says the bodies of two women killed in central Russia were found beneath a scrawled message demanding freedom for jailed members of Pussy Riot.

The Investigative Committee said on Thursday that the women, aged 76 and 38, were killed late last week in their apartment in the central city of Kazan. It says that “Free Pussy Riot” was “presumably” written with blood on the wall. It says the substance has not yet been confirmed.

The band members' attorney Nikolai Polozov tells the Interfax news agency the killing was a “dirty provocation” and hopes the killer will be found and punished.

Three band members were sentenced to two years in jail for performing a “punk prayer” against President Vladimir Putin at a Moscow cathedral in February. - Sapa-AP
