North Korean leader Kim Jong Un won 100 percent of the votes cast in his legislative district during the single-party parliamentary elections held at the weekend, according to official media reports on Monday.
“The voters of the constituency took part in voting and 100 percent of them voted for Kim Jong Un,” North Korean state media reported.
This was seen as “an expression of all the service personnel and people's absolute support and profound trust in the supreme leader.”
Sunday's poll was the first for members of the People's Assembly since Kim Jong Un took leadership of the authoritarian regime after his father's death two years ago.
The Assembly is nominally the highest legislative power, but in practice only meets once or twice a year to rubber-stamp policies drawn up by the Workers' Party.
Observers in South Korea said the result will serve to consolidate Kim's grip on power. - Sapa-dpa
