Singapore - A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of posting a bomb threat online, police said on Thursday.

The Singapore Police Force said in a statement that a report had been made about a threat on social media to bomb City Hall near the city’s Central Business District.

The police said it believed the comment was a hoax, but that investigations were ongoing.

“The police take a serious view against such irresponsible behaviour, which creates unnecessary public alarm,” said the statement.

Under the Breach of the Prohibition Against False Threats of Terrorist Acts, anyone convicted of the offence may be liable to a fine of up to 100 000 Singapore dollars (69 500 US dollars) or five years imprisonment, or both.
