A man paddling his kayak off a Perth beach was saved by a friend after a 3.5-metre shark attacked him on Wednesday.
The man aged in his 50s was about 150 metres offshore at 7.15am when the shark rammed the back of his surf ski and took a bite.
He was thrown into the water but a fellow paddler managed to drag him aboard and they reached shore unscathed.
Surf Life Saving West Australia spokesman Paul Andrew told The West Australian newspaper the paddler at first thought he had been hit by a jet ski.
“It's an extremely brave act to firstly paddle past a shark of that size and pick his mate up,” he said. - Sapa-dpa
