London - A British man was jailed on Tuesday after putting a cat in a tumble dryer, filming it and posting the footage on YouTube, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) said.

Alan Staughton, 23, of Huntingdon, eastern England, put Princess inside the dryer and told the animal it was going for “a tumble” before letting it spin for 12 seconds.

The cat suffered a broken tooth and a tongue injury in the incident in June.

Staughton was jailed for 56 days by local magistrates and banned from keeping animals for life.

The guilty man, who has attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and a conduct disorder, admitted causing unnecessary suffering to the animal, which belonged to his then-partner, at an earlier hearing.

The incident caused the breakdown of the relationship and the cat has been found a new home. - Sapa-AFP
