Washington - A man was arrested on Sunday after he climbed over a fence at the White House, the Secret Service said.

Spokesman Brian Leary said the incident happened shortly before 4pm (20h00 GMT) and that the individual in question was “immediately detained”.

Charges against the man, whose identity has not been released, are pending, Leary said.
