Geneva - A man in north-eastern Switzerland shot two police

officers during a house search on Tuesday before later turning the

gun on himself.

The 33-year-old fled after shooting the officers and then hid to

prevent arrest, local police said.

After hours of negotiations, the man shot himself when police tried

to take him into custody.

"We can't say anything about the condition of the suspect at the

time," the police said, without specifying if the man was even alive.

The police also declined to provide further details about why they

were searching the house near the German and Austrian borders, but

did say that the man was trying to commit an act of terror.

The injured police officers were taken to a hospital, one of them in

critical condition.
