The death toll in the collapse of a Paris apartment building rose to eight after rescue workers recovered two more bodies Monday at the site of a suspected gas explosion.
Firefighters found the bodies of a woman in her 80s and a man in his 50s under the rubble of the building in the eastern suburb of Rosny-Sous-Bois. They were the last missing residents after a Sunday morning blast ripped through the four-storey building, half of which caved in.
A mother and her two teenage children, two adults and a child approximately 10 years old were among the dead.
Eleven people were injured, including four seriously.
Local authorities said they suspected the explosion was caused by gas.
An investigating magistrate has been appointed to probe the cause of the mishap. - Sapa-dpa
