Katmandu, Nepal -

Police in Nepal say angry villagers have attacked a police station while demanding that officers gun down an elephant that has killed at least four people.

Police official Deepak Thapa said hundreds of protesters in the southern district of Chitwan also vandalized police vehicles. Police fired teargas to control the mob.

The elephant killed a couple on Saturday and at least two other people last month in the villages bordering the Chitwan forest.

Thapa says soldiers have been sent inside the forest to try to capture or kill the elephant. - Sapa-AP
