New Delhi -

One person was killed and more than 30 injured in clashes between a mob and police in New Delhi, officials said on Monday.

The violence broke out late on Sunday night after residents took to streets over police caning two men riding a scooter for not wearing helmets.

More than half dozen vehicles and a petrol station were set ablaze in the clashes that continued past midnight.

“Five locals and 32 policemen were injured in the clashes and many of them have been hospitalised,” district police chief Sanjeev Solanki said. Twenty men were detained for questioning, he said. - Sapa-dpa
