Many of the family of the executed uncle of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un have been put to death to prevent them organising a revolt, it was reported on Monday.
Some were said to have been dragged from their homes and shot in front of other people or executed by firing squad, while more distant relatives were sent to prison camps, said sources in South Korea.
Kim’s uncle, Jang Song-thaek, was executed last month - with one report saying he was killed by dogs - because the young ruler saw him as a traitor. Kim denounced him as “despicable human scum”.
Those killed in the purge are said to include: Jang’s sister Jang Kye-sun and her husband Jon Yong-jin, who was ambassador to Cuba; Jang’s nephew Jang Yong-chol, the ambassador to Malaysia, and the nephew’s two sons. - Daily Mail
