Washington - The suspect behind the bombings in New York and New Jersey over the weekend, Ahmad Khan Rahami, has been known to US law enforcement authorities, local media reported on Monday.

Rahami was on authorities' radar, Fox News reported.

Earlier on Monday, police identified the 28-year-old Rahami as a suspect in three separate incidents.

Saturday night, an explosion in New York City's Chelsea neighbourhood injured 29 people. Earlier in the day, a bomb exploded near a US Marine Corps charity race in the city of Seaside Park, New Jersey, about 80 miles south of New York. No one was hurt in the New Jersey incident.

On Monday morning, a third bomb exploded near a train station in Elizabeth, New Jersey as police explosives experts were trying to disarm the device.
