Washington - US President Barack Obama repeated the oath of office Monday before a cheering crowd of hundreds of thousands, publicly launching his second term in the White House.

Supreme Court Justice John Roberts administered the oath, as Obama laid his hands on two Bibles of significance for the day: one that belonged to president Abraham Lincoln, and another that belonged to slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King.

As Obama stepped onto the podium on the west steps of the white-domed Capitol building before the oath, the crowd chanted “Obama, Obama” and waved small American flags. - Sapa-dpa
