West Bank - A Palestinian was killed by Israeli soldiers during an incursion into the northern West Bank town of Qabatiya on Tuesday, medical sources have said.
Nasser Zakarneh, a 23-year-old civilian was killed by Israeli soldiers who opened fire in an operation to arrest wanted militants from the radical Islamic Jihad faction, witnesses and medics said.
Israeli military sources said a soldier was also shot and wounded in the clashes with Islamic Jihad gunmen.
The death raised to 4 763 the number of people killed since the September 2000 launch of the Palestinian uprising, including 3 701 Palestinians and 988 Israelis, according to an AFP tally.
An informal truce has been in place between Palestinian militants and Israel since late January. - Sapa-AFP
