Police in Northern Ireland say two men have been arrested at a road security checkpoint and seven pipe bombs discovered in the vehicle they were driving.

British Army experts safely dismantled the homemade bombs on Tuesday using a remote-controlled robot.

No group claimed responsibility. Militants from both the British Protestant and Irish Catholic sides of Northern Ireland's social divide use homemade explosive devices.

Earlier this month police arrested and charged seven suspected members of an Irish Republican Army faction with a range of offenses, including directing terrorism, following a lengthy surveillance operation. Police separately charged another suspected IRA man with possessing several pipe bombs being stored in a crowded apartment building in Londonderry, Northern Ireland's second-largest city. - Sapa-AP
