Kiev, Ukraine - Angry residents in a provincial town in southern Ukraine have stormed the local police headquarters after two officers were implicated in the brutal gang-rape of a young woman.

Channel 5 footage on Tuesday showed men throwing stones and then storming the gates of a police unit in the town of Vradiyevka.

A 29-year-old woman said she was driven to the woods, raped and beaten last week by two policemen and a taxi driver. The woman spent several days in a coma, having sustained multiple fractures to her skull and bruises all over her body.

One of the police officers and the driver were detained shortly after the crime, but the second officer remained free, claiming he was on duty at the police building when the crime happened. - Sapa-AP
