The Hague - Queen Maxima of the Netherlands has been appointed as the country's regent by the Dutch Senate and the House of Representatives. Both houses, based in The Hague, approved three bills on Tuesday, officially establishing the regency of Queen Maxima. The new legislation means that the Argentinian will be able to observe the royal duties if her husband King Willem-Alexander passes away while their heir is still under age. Queen Maxima would then remain in the position until her daughter, Amalia - who turns 10 on December 7 - comes of age and is able to take on the royal duties herself.
