Vienna -

Red Bull said that an unknown person has been attempting for several weeks to blackmail it by claiming to have contaminated its beverages with faeces.

The Austrian energy drink giant said however that “immediate tests and analysis in stores supposedly with contaminated goods on the shelves have found nothing.”

Red Bull was born when Dietrich Mateschitz, an Austrian toothpaste marketing executive, stumbled during a trip to Asia in the early 1980s across a popular local beverage known as Krating Daeng, Thai for water buffalo, that cured his jet lag.

The firm now has annual revenues of more than four billion euros ($5 billion). - Sapa-AFP
