Divers combing the wreckage of the grounded Costa Concordia risked their lives to rescue a teddy bear left behind by a child during the evacuation of the ship.
Taking advantage of a break in the bad weather, searchers pinpointed the cabin where a surviving child had left his teddy bear. His father had written to islanders who temporarily sheltered his son and himself after they were evacuated and mentioned the boy couldn't sleep at night without his bear.
Firefighters who had searched the ship were told about the missing toy and then went back in to retrieve it from an above-water section of the wreck, according to Corriere Fiorentino, the Florence edition of Corriere della Sera.
They sent it to the boy, who lives in Verona, northern Italy, said the newspaper, which did not identify the family, left. At least 17 people died when the ship ran aground, and 15 others are still missing. - The Independent
