Russia's anti-narcotics agency raided a lawn growing next to a Moscow metro station after receiving a tip-off that the grass growing there was in fact marijuana, it said on Friday.

“Instead of lawn grass, it had grown 'weed'“, the Federal Anti-Narcotics Agency said after carrying out a joint raid with the FSB security forces.

The city authorities had recently returfed the area, and the authorities are investigating the source of the turf, the drugs squad said.

Komsomolskaya Pravda published a video of the marijuana plants growing right next to the entrance of a metro station in the city's south-east.

A total of 230 plants were growing in the area, the anti-narcotics agency said. - Sapa-AFP
