Seven pilgrims were killed in Nepal's district of Sindhuli after they were swept away by a swollen river, local media reported on Monday.

Three others were missing in the incident that occurred about 80 kilometres south-east of the capital Kathmandu.

The pilgrims were swept away as they attempted to cross the Kamala River, according to Kantipur Television. The bodies were recovered 100 metres downstream.

Police said 13 people had been rescued. Indian nationals were suspected to be among those killed. - Sapa-dpa
