Sydney - An Australian man was attacked by a shark on Wednesday as he was spearfishing at a popular resort town south of Brisbane, ambulance officers said.
A New South Wales ambulance spokesperson said the man's leg was bitten by an unknown breed of shark as he was diving off Byron Bay, about 120km south of Brisbane.
He was taken to hospital suffering from puncture wounds and was in a stable condition, the spokesperson said.
The attack comes after surfer Bradley Smith, 29, was killed by a suspected great white shark off the country's west coast last month in the sixth fatal shark attack in Australian waters since 2000. - Sapa-AFP
