Tenerife, Spain - Heavy storms have caused flooding and left thousands without electricity in Spain's Canary Islands, a major tourist destination, local authorities said on Tuesday.
Several roads were blocked in the Atlantic Ocean archipelago but there were "no serious incidents," said the official in charge of security for the regional government, Jose Miguel Ruano.
But he said dozens of people were evacuated during the night as a precautionary measure.
Around 10 000 people were without power on the island of Tenerife, while mobile phone networks were also affected on a number of islands.
The weather also delayed some flights on the islands of La Palma and El Hierro, Spain's airport authority said. - Sapa-AFP
