Phnom Penh - A Russian businessman wanted by Interpol for alleged child sex crimes has been arrested in Cambodia, local media reported on Tuesday.

Stanislav Molodyakov was detained on Monday on a warrant ordering his deportation, The Cambodia Daily reported, citing a police spokesman.

Moscow has been requesting his extradition since 2009, where he is wanted in connection with the alleged abuse of two minors, the report said.

The 45-year-old, also known as Alexander Trofimov, has also served half of an eight-year prison sentence in Cambodia on another charge of abusing children in the southern town of Sihanoukville.

He was released in December by a royal pardon, sparking an outcry. Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest and deportation in March.

Samleang Seila, of child protection organization Action Pour Les Enfants, welcomed his detention and branded him a “danger to the safety of children.” - Sapa-dpa
