Phnom Penh -

Cambodian police were investigating the death of an American man whose battered body was found wrapped in a curtain on a garbage dump near the capital, local media reported on Thursday.

The man was identified as William Bryan Glenn, 44, from Mississippi, and is believed to have died from strangulation, The Cambodia Daily reported.

His body was found early on Wednesday.

“There were bruises on the man's body and some blood from his nose, so this was murder,” local police chief Yim Saran told the newspaper.

Glenn had reportedly only lived in Cambodia for about a month, after moving from Bangkok, and had not arrived for classes this week, according to the director of the school where Glenn worked.
