The following is a list of the remaining 20 hostages held by the Muslim separatist group Abu Sayyaf on Jolo Island in the southern Philippines:
Hostages seized on April 23 from the Malaysian island of Sipadan
France- Sonia Wendling, 34, a mechanical engineer originally from Drusenheim, Bas-Rhin.
- Stephane Loisy, 34, Wendling's boyfriend. Also a mechanical engineer. The couple live in Paris.
Finland- Risto Vahanen, 47, of Helsinki. Engineer.
- Seppo Fraenti, 51, of Helsinki. Co-ordinator of activities for handicapped children in a Helsinki hospital.
Germany- Werner Wallert, 57, geography teacher in Goettingen, northern Germany. (Wallert's ailing wife, Renate, was released on July 17 for humanitarian reasons. German journalist Andreas Lorenz, abducted in Jolo on July 2, was freed on July 27)
- Marc Wallert, 27, Werner and Renate Wallert's son. profession unknown.
Lebanon- Marie-Michele Moarbes, 32, of Beirut. She lives in Paris where she is employed by an advertising firm and is married to a Lebanese.
South Africa- Callie Strydom, 36, an accountant
- Monique Strydom, 36, Callie Strydom's wife. An agent for her sister, an artist. The couple live in Johannesburg. They have no children.
Malaysia- Fong Yin Ken, 28, dive instructor
- Kua Yu Loong, 21, cook
- Basilius Jim, 28, wildlife ranger
(Forest ranger Zulkarnain Hashim was freed on June 24, policeman Abdul Jawah Sulawat followed him on July 14. Vincent Kwong, Lee Hock Leong, Francis Masangkim and Balakrishnan Nair were freed on July 21.)

- Lucrecia Dablo, resort hotel cook, a native of Pagadian city
French television crew seized on July 9 in Jolo
- Maryse Burgot, 36, political correspondent. Has worked for France 2 since 1991.
- Jean le Garrec, 46, cameraman. Has worked for France 2 since 1978. Winner of the prestigious Prix Albert Londres in 1993
- Roland Madura, 49, soundman. Has worked for France 2 since 1972.
Filipino construction workers seized on August 1 in Jolo
- Samuel Ramillano, 40, of Zamboanga city
- Reynante de la Cruz, 20 of Godod town in the southern Philippines
- Nelson Habibas, 51, of Zamboanga city - Sapa-AFP
