Karachi, Pakistan -

A Pakistani police official says a bomb blast in the southern port city of Karachi has killed two people.

Mazhar Mishwani said the bomb, planted near a roadside tea stall, killed the shop owner and a police official. It also injured eight people when it went off Wednesday evening.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility.

Karachi is Pakistan's largest city. It has recently been experiencing a wave of violence marked by religious, political and ethnic killings.

Security officials are concerned that the Taliban and other militant groups are using the chaos in the city to consolidate their presence there. - Sapa-AP
