London -

British police say they have arrested two women in London on suspicion of terrorism offences.

Scotland Yard said officers arrested a 26-year-old woman at Heathrow Airport early on Thursday as she was preparing to board a plane to Istanbul, Turkey. The force said a “large quantity” of cash was seized.

A second woman, 27, was arrested at an address in north-west London later on the same day. Both women are in police custody and police said they are searching two addresses in London in relation to the arrests.

Scotland Yard said the pair is suspected of being involved in the commission, preparation and instigation of terrorism, but the arrests weren't in response to any immediate threat. - Sapa-AP
