Washington - US law enforcement has identified the mall attacker in the state of Minnesota as 22-year-old Somali American Dahir Adan, local media reported on Monday.

Two Somali community leaders in Minnesota also confirmed the identity of the attacker, CNN reported.

Earlier on Sunday, an off-duty police officer shot dead a suspected attacker who stabbed eight people inside a Minnesota mall. All of the attacker's victims have survived.

The Islamic State (IS) terrorist organisation, outlawed in Russia and the United States, has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
