A police cordon is seen outside the home of a slain US missionary couple in the municipality of Santiago.
A missionary couple from the United States were found dead in their home near the violence-wracked north Mexican city of Monterrey, the US embassy and a Mexican official said on Wednesday.
The US embassy in Mexico City identified the couple as John and Wanda Casias, and said they were providing consular assistance to their next of kin.
The couple were from Colorado and had lived in Santiago municipality, about 35 kilometres outside Monterrey, according to Jorge Domene, security spokesman for Nuevo Leon state.
Their bodies were found late on Tuesday, apparently showing signs of beating and asphixiation, Domene said.
The couple's son, who was not identified, discovered the bodies and said that some electrical appliances, a vehicle and other objects were missing, he added.
The couple's website said their lives had been “suddenly taken in a home invasion” and that they had been working in Mexico for 29 years. - Sapa-AFP
