Countries belonging to the global police organisation Interpol voted on Thursday in Rome for Mireille Ballestrazzi of France to lead the agency for the next four years.
The 58-year-old becomes the first women to preside over the 190-country organisation, which is based in Lyon, France. She was previously European Commission vice president for Interpol.
Ronald Noble of the United States remains Interpol general secretary, heading the agency's day to day operations. - Sapa-dpa
