Los Angeles – A woman who was raped by Roman Polanski in 1977 when she was 13, on Friday asked a judge in Los Angeles to end the case against the French-Polish film director.

Samantha Geimer told reporters outside the courtroom that she was sure Polanksi immediately regretted his actions, adding that although the rape was "unpleasant" it "just wasn't as traumatic for me as everybody would like to believe it was."

Geimer, now aged 54, appeared at the hearing with Polanski's lawyer Harland Braun.

Geimer downplayed Polanski's actions saying "I knew he was sorry the next day, I was sure he instantly regretted what he had done."

Polanski admitted to statutory rape and spent 42 days in prison, but fled to France in 1978 before being sentenced and has refused to return to the US since.
